In preparation for the second edition in 2017, Dance Bridges Festival underwent a change in the organizational structure, expanding local & international partnerships and collaborations. While Dance Alliance Kolkata and the international network of World Dance Alliance continue to support Dance Bridges Festival, it now functions as an independent organization. Dance Bridges Kolkata has been launched as a registered society (under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act 1961) for the purpose of hosting the Festival and other associated events. It is managed by an Executive Board that is representative of Kolkata’s dance, arts, music, education, business and cultural communities. The Festival is also supported by an International Artistic & Programming Committee, Advisory Board & Organizational Partners & Sponsors.
We endeavour to serve as a body of individuals with different areas of experience and expertise to facilitate the planning and execution of Dance Bridges Festival and ensure the effective management of the Festival funds, developing and promoting sustainable and best practice in cultural management.
We hope to promote international dance and arts awareness by building cultural ties through artistic exchanges, providing opportunities for dance and arts education, and developing new collaborative projects as well as training in arts management.
We desire to be a platform to network and build alliances with cultural supporters, artistic /financial patrons, and individual and corporate partners, acting as a bridge connecting the artistic, cultural and business communities.
It is our goal to represent the city of Kolkata and it’s diverse & rich culture, dance & arts scene to the international community to create an interest in Kolkata as an artistic hub.
We hope Dance Bridges Kolkata will function as an Indian based organization that is internationally known as a platform for dance, facilitating artistic exchanges, collaboration and performance for the development of the dance and cultural sector in Kolkata and India.
We plan to create Dance Bridges Festival as an exciting dance highlight in the Indian cultural event calendar that brings internationals and visitors from outside Kolkata to the city.
Our hope is to enable international dance artists to come closer together for the purpose of greater artistic expression, strategic and structural development, cultural understanding and building a collective creativity.
In the future we hope to commission new works and support smaller projects that are collaborations between professional dancers from India and international artists/companies; create scholarships and travel grants for talented dancers and emerging new artists to participate in dance training programmes, residencies and performance opportunities abroad and to build an artistic space/ institution to enable research for new projects, showcase performances and host dance education programmes
