This class invites boys and girls (and their parents too) to join Yvonne and the dancers on an exploration around Scotland. Using creative dance practices children will learn about places in Scotland, try some Scottish Country Dancing and if they are really lucky even meet the Loch Ness Monster!

Contemporary & Street Dance, Yvonne Young, NYDCS [UK]

Yvonne and NYDCS dancers invite young people for a fun and lively class where they will learn some dance sequences and have the chance to make their own too. This class will fuse contemporary and street dance styles.

This workshop will include an introduction of ballet technique in a fun and creative atmosphere. A brief history of ballet, dance games, and the basics of ballet fundamentals will be incorporated into the class. Ballet specific stretching, jumps, and turns will be introduced.

Composition, “Approlication”, Rhythmosaic [India]

3.30-5pm Rhythmosaic Studio
Approlication is derived from the words Approach and Application. This workshop will feature Rhythmosaic’s style of work which is deeply rooted in Indian tradition and culture along with its understanding of European and global Contemporary Movement principles. Combining kathak with jazz this is a high intensity physical workshop with a very strong technical approach. It will emphasize the application and approach of these different movement forms and how they lead to one organic creation.
Suitability: Participants must have strong background in classical or contemporary movement art [Intermediate/Advanced level]

Contemporary Dance – “Vice Versa”, Bea Debrabant [France/Belgium]

During this class, different physical qualities in floor and standing techniques will be introduced. Participants will explore the possibilities of energetic modulation of the body and they will play between fluidity and impact. This leads to a very specific “contemporary dance” (or vocabulary) inspired by techniques such as tai chi, Flamenco/Forro and Hip hop.

The workshop will consist of two parts: learning how to use the momentum of action in order to move through the space and later to use all the given information to produce it in your own way of dancing and improvising. Sometimes it seems hard and very uncomfortable to move being on a lower level, especially if one wants to do it with speed. But in this class the participants will attempt to use the basic knowledge of how bodies are capable to move, which will help them to find and create natural ways to transfer the weight from movement to movement without major struggles. Moreover, it’s important to mention that during the workshop dancers will mainly focus on their relationship with the floor, whether in a vertical or horizontal position. Participants should be familiar with the basics of floorwork.

Participants will work with principles of body mechanics such as floor work, animal/primal movements, release and momentum. They will experiment with functional movement and theatricality, as well as internal and external engagement to understand how to use this for composition and choreography and as a performer.

A traditional ballet technique class that will focus on classical ballet technique, proper body alignment, French terminology and musicality. This class assumes knowledge of basic ballet vocabulary and provides an opportunity to expand your dance practice and sense of artistry.

This workshop will focuse on locating the precise beginning of an action. “How do ‘actions’ respond to each other in building a sequence?”. This class takes this sequence apart and traces the beginnings of an action through isolation exercises that require the mind to focus on a specific part of the body and modulates the intensity of the action. The workshop will be focusing on vibration and impulse based body movement. The participants will be led in a deep experience of body awareness to feel from the inside and realize the source of a movement/ the origin of one’s energy. This will help to keep the body and mind present on stage.

This session will introduce the fundamentals of hula and will include a brief history of Hawaii and the evolution of Hula. This class will be both theoritical and practical.

This workshop will revolve around how one can use breathing and relaxation in ballet movement. The dancers will look at how to play with spirals and with oppositions. The class will use some knowledge of the “functional analysis of movement” and “anatomy” to help solve some technical issues. It will be important also to focus on musicality, in a very precise way, in order to play with qualities and textures of the movement, as well as travelling “big” through the space.

In this workshop the participants will start with breathing exercices and looking into the body. They will be encouraged to feel the difference when one focuses on the bone, skin, muscles and joints. After this, through basic techniques, dancers will learn the repertoire from ‘Godos’. The workshop will use technique to focus on the difference between dynamic and delicate movement through the repertoire.Suitability: Intermediate, Advanced & pre-professional dancers [Advanced level]

This contemporary workshop will share Iwabuchi’s ‘body’ technique that is inspired by Japanese martial arts and gymnastics, and methods he calls ‘the netlike body’. This workshop experience will help to make noticeable changes in the structure of the body and enhancing a strong supple body.

Marcos will lead a contemporary dance class based on physical and emotional elements taken from his work. His style is inspired by various techniques encountered during his travels and draw from a close attention to the performer and its capabilities. This workshop will use techniques of improvisation  to engage in a discovery of space with a different perspective. The participants will begin with basic warm up exercices followed by more expensive movement explorations. This will include variations such as speed in movement and other creative tools by which the participants will find new ways to relate to the space personally as well as with other people and objects in the space.

Manipuri Dance, “Lai Haraoba”, Suman Sarawgi [India]

During this workshop participants will discover ‘Lai Haraoba’,­ a form of Manipuri dance. This form literally translates as the festivity or the merry-making of the divine. The workshop will use the enchanting part of the festive dance to celebrate the art form itself, colourful and exceptionally beautiful.

During this workshop the participants will engage in practical exercises that will boost one’s creativity as well as help one reconnect with the inner-self and body. Using meditation, interaction and improvisonal games to get closer to knowing oneself and become more aware about the human body, and working of muscles and bones. The session will include some activities based on daily life, connecting with feelings and emotions, and using these materials to develop an abstract and physical language to communicate with each other through the body rather than speech.

“Do you remember how to walk and how to roll ? It might not be as easy as you think!” These ideas and similar investigations will lead this workshop process. What the body knows very often gradually becomes dormant because of a busy lifestyle. The workshop aims to help participants to “wake up” the body through a range of improvisation exercises, musical & rhythm based initiations and other kinds of guided activities. It will be time to regain the pleasure of moving the body.
